AC Milan came away with a point from their game against Roma at Stadio Olimpico. Koni De Winter was the unexpected goalscorer and below are the player ratings for the Rossoneri.
If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.
Starting XI
Maignan (7): The goalkeeper was forced to make quite a lot of saves, especially in the first half, but he mostly relied on good positioning to make the stops. There was one very advanced save, though, as he kept out Celik’s quick effort thanks to his reflexes.
Tomori (6): While it’s true that Roma created a lot in and around Milan’s box, the Englishman did enough in my book to get a pass here. Some things could have been done better, but he also had some good moments in both phases of the game.
Gabbia (5.5): This might sound harsh, seeing as he did grow into the game and ultimately was decent, but he struggled to control Malen tonight. That could perhaps be said for his colleagues too but as the leader at the back, you need to make sure the striker isn’t left free multiple times.
De Winter (7 – MOTM): I said before the game, more specifically in the key battles piece, that he would need to get physical with Dybala and I think he did that. Defensively, as such, he did what he could and the goal was very nice (using his size very well).

Saelemaekers (5): An evening to forget for the Belgian. Given his past with Roma, and the heated discussions in the reverse fixture, he was heavily booed by the home crowd and he couldn’t quite deal with that. Loads of silly mistakes and one especially that could have been super costly.
Ricci (6): I thought he was fine in his midfield role, making quite a lot of runs and covering a lot of ground (as always), while distributing the ball in a decent fashion too. He may not have stood out, but not giving him a pass would have been harsh.
Modric (7): Definitely a MOTM shout, given just how hard he works in both phases of the game. At the back, he had many interceptions and in the attack, he was one of the few to actually create something. The cross for De Winter on the goal was lovely.
Rabiot (6.5): Strong and commanding, as usual, and forced Svilar to a good save at the start of the second half. However, while he was undoubtedly good tonight, I would have needed to see a bit more for a higher rating.
Bartesaghi (5.5): Let me just preface this by saying that I really liked most of what he did tonight, from the bursting runs forward to his passing in tight situations. However, his actions just before the handball can only be categorised as schoolboy errors. You have to be more aware of your surroundings. At least try to clear it for a corner.

Nkunku (5.5): It would have been harsh to give a 5, since he chased down Ndicka and forced the corner that led to Milan’s goal, but he wasn’t good either. He really wasn’t on the same wavelength as his teammates for most of the game and even when he did find good positions, nothing came of it.
Leao (5): I don’t know what’s up with his injury/inflammation, but he can’t continue like this. The hold-up play was dreadful for most of the game and even when he had the chance to run at the defence, he almost always stopped and played it backwards. I just really struggle to see the positives.
Substitutes
Athekame (5.5): He was booked early on for an extremely silly foul, and he didn’t add that much in attack either. He has the pace, but his touch usually lets him down.
Pulisic (N/A): To be perfectly honest, and this goes for the next man too, I didn’t really see enough to give him a rating. Roma got their penalty almost immediately after and then the game changed to defending for Milan.
Fullkrug (N/A): I didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
Loftus-Cheek (N/A): I didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
The manager
Allegri (5.5): The decision to keep De Winter at the back was a good one, but questions have to be asked about the attack. Besides, even if we have said it before (and it has worked out in Allegri’s favour), Milan were dominated for large parts of the game.
