As Honest Ahanor continues to shine for Atalanta, some background has emerged regarding AC Milan’s attempt to sign him.

A talent is emerging in Bergamo who promises to ignite the future of Italian football: Honest Ahanor. Despite not yet turning 18, his rapid ascent with Genoa attracted interest from a number of clubs, and Milan were among those linked.

The rumours began at the end of June when he was named as a potential replacement for Theo Hernandez, given his then-imminent move to Al-Hilal.

There was also seemingly the desire to sign a left-back for the future, and Ahanor would have fit that mould, but Genoa ended up selling him to Atalanta and Pervis Estupinan signed for Milan.

Let me highlight one regret’

Pellegatti spoke in a video on his YouTube channel and he hinted that Milan should feel some regret about not getting Ahanor, with his comments relayed by TMW.

“Let me highlight one regret: Ahanor. He was a player Milan could have signed. He already had the hallmarks of a champion. At 17, he’s playing like a star,” he said.

“I hate to bring up the transfer market again, but Ahanor was there: €20m, the typical Milan figure for a young talent. It was worth spending. I’m truly sorry to have lost him.”
