PM: Milan identified as likely destination for Zirkzee – why a January arrival could happen

3 hours ago 28

The January mercato is quickly approaching, and AC Milan could be one of the teams active in a bit of a striker hunt.

There is a clear need to sign a striker with Milan. Christian Pulisic has contributed heavily so far, but the lack of goals from other forwards is alarming. Rafael Leao had two big chances on Sunday, Santiago Gimenez has not hit the target in Serie A, and the same applies to Christopher Nkunku.

In each case, you can make points to support them. Leao has not played in a month or so, but still found good spaces, which bodes well. Gimenez’s goalscoring issues are complemented by his positioning and work to help others score. With Nkunku, he is still getting to a match-ready status.

Zirkzee again?

Despite all this, Allegri was left wanting a proper striker this summer. A physical type who can dominate in the penalty area, so the January mercato could offer an opportunity to right this.

However, PianetaMilan reporting that Joshua Zirkzee is an option is a little surprising, given that he is another second striker type of player. Intermediaries are beginning to ‘make moves’ and the Rossoneri would be a likely destination.

The Diavolo are interested, but they may not be the only club, per reports. It will be a situation to watch.
