QS: Comotto the ‘surprise’ of Milan’s preseason – his background and plan for the future

Christian Comotto has caught the eye during AC Milan’s preseason, even scoring in the most recent friendly against Perth Glory.

Quotidiano Sportivo have published a report on Comotto, remarking that he has shown performance levels well beyond his 17 years in his minutes on the tour. His father Gianluca boasts more than 500 appearances for Torino and Fiorentina, so he comes from a footballing family.

His mother Marianna Mecacci has worked for Inter, Milan and is Sandro Tonali’s representative as part of Giuseppe Riso’s GR Sports Agency. His girlfriend, Ginevra Gilardino, is the daughter of the current Pisa coach.

With Fiorentina, Comotto defeated a Milan side led by his peer Francesco Camarda, who a few years later would be among the factors that convinced the teenager to choose the Rossoneri and not their city rivals Inter.

A plan for the future

Last year, after signing his first professional contract (until 2027), he scored four goals across all competitions with the Primavera. He was also a protagonist also at the European Championships with Italy U17s until the semi-final, so Allegri has observed him since day one.

This summer, he has been with the senior squad. He scored the winning penalty in the shootout against Arsenal, then he started in Perth with another penalty scored (which he won) with a dink. Not only that: in the 45 minutes played in Australia in front of the defence, he had over 93% pass completion.

His destiny now is a season to gain experience, most likely at Spezia on loan. He likely won’t cross paths with one of his idols, Luka Modric, who will be officially presented on Monday and then head to the Rossoneri store on Via Dante for an initial meeting with the fans.

Comotto could already be in Liguria on Monday for a medical and to sign, and perhaps he’ll seek some more advice from Sandro Tonali: “I take inspiration from him, and he’s definitely a role model for me. He’s a fantastic player, and we’re also friends.”

Comotto also commented on the bold comparison with the former Rossoneri player now at Newcastle: “It’s an honour, but his level is almost unmatchable. I still have a long way to go.”
