QS: January, February and the summer – Allegri has three options for strikers

Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic were going to be the striker partnership for AC Milan this season. However, they have not been given a chance to shine. 

The injuries to Pulisic and Leao throughout this season have certainly thrown spanners into the works. Of course, having a small squad can be good, but when the depth is exposed, it is worrying and Milan have been a victim of this.

Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez should have been solid replacement options, but neither has shown the ability to perform when needed.

Three solutions

For Massimiliano Allegri, there are three steps that can be made, and two can be done in the next few months, according to Quotidiano Sportivo.

Niclas Fullkrug will be good to go from the start of the January mercato, and it is hoped that he can bring the required physicality to the frontline. After all, the German offers a new profile for the Italian to use.

Additionally, Gimenez will be back in February after his surgery – providing he does not leave the club in January – so that is another option. With his issue affecting him for a few months, perhaps on his return, the true version of the Mexican can be seen.

Finally, there is the summer mercato, where Dusan Vlahovic is looking like an increasingly possible arrival. Of course, in six months, things could be very different, but it is unlikely that Allegri’s feelings change.
