Adrien Rabiot was delighted to get back on the scoresheet for his country, continuing an excellent start to the new season.
Having been given the nod from minute one against Azerbaijan last night, the sight of Rabiot leaping like a salmon to head in a Kylian Mbappe cross at the far post was a brilliant one, not only for France fans but also for Milanisti too.
He joined very late in the summer transfer window from Marseille and slotted straight into Massimiliano Allegri’s plans. A string of impressive performances convinced Didier Deschamps to keep relying on him, and he repaid that faith.
Rabiot reacts to goal
Rabiot spoke to TF1 after the match and admitted that although France ended up winning easily, there were still some frustrations about the pace of play.
“When you play against teams with a 5-4-1 formation, it’s always complicated. We were a bit slow. We made them run. You have to be patient in these games,” he said (via MilanNews).
“It was important to win, we knew we’d find the opening. The three points arrived. It’s good for the team because the second goal is always important. I’m very happy to have scored here, it’s important to me. If we win in Iceland, we’ll definitely qualify. But it will be a different game there.”
