Davide Bartesaghi gave away a late penalty in last night’s game, but AC Milan were lucky as the spot kick was skied. A lucky escape, but it shouldn’t have been needed.
There were a few decisions of interest from the Genoa clash. Christian Pulisic’s equaliser was certainly a bit strange, whilst there could have also been a penalty for Milan late into the second half. A game filled with maybes.
What was not left as a maybe, though, was the penalty call against Bartesaghi. The young Italian went to ground and was deemed not to have won the ball, resulting in a spot-kick. However, Nicolae Stanciu could not convert.
DAZN’s VAR expert
Today, as is common after any matchday, DAZN’s refereeing expert has looked through the decisions and Calciomercato.com have relayed his words, starting with the penalty calls.
“A complicated incident that VAR could hardly have intervened in. Let’s focus on the feet: Bartesaghi plants his left foot on the ground, and the move is blocked by Ellertsson, who runs towards the Milan defender.
“It’s almost impossible for VAR to intervene; it’s almost a given that it will confirm. It’s Ellertsson who goes to hit Bartesaghi; in my opinion, this isn’t a penalty.

Should the Rossoneri have had a penalty?
“It was a normal collision between Ostigard and Fullkrug. The Genoa defender touched the ball first, then the German striker, but it was too light.
“On Athekame? The Genoa defender touched the ball first, but the move should have been stopped sooner because Fullkrug blocked Leali’s move because he wasn’t able to come out and get a high catch in the penalty area. That was a foul.”
Additionally, Luca Marelli looked at Pulisic’s goal and why it should not have been given.
“Everyone was celebrating except Pulisic, who realized he’d touched the ball with his arm. He touched it with the back of his left hand and then with his head. You can really see the change in the ball’s spin, you can see it perfectly.”
