This weekend, Tijjani Reijnders will be involved in one of Europe’s biggest rivalries, but he is not going into the experience blind, thanks to his time with AC Milan.
If there is a game with pressure, it is the Milanese derby. Two of the biggest clubs in the world, sharing the same city and even the same stadium. The Derby Della Madonnina. It is one of the biggest games in the footballing calendar, let alone Milan’s.
In recent times, the Rossoneri have stood tall, going unbeaten since April 2024. However, that game is remembered for another level of pain than just being a regular derby defeat. Six games unbeaten since, the Diavolo will hope to keep it going in March.
Reijnders’ recollection of Milan-Inter
Reijnders is no stranger to the derby either, featuring in seven derbies during his time in Milano. He is also not a stranger to having an impact, with two goals and as many assists in the games, too.
Today, he spoke to English outlet The Times to look back at the derby, ahead of this weekend’s clash between Manchester City and Manchester United, via MilanNews.
“Everything about the Milan derby is intense. I remember one year my wife asked me, ‘Can we go out to dinner on Thursday?’ I replied, ‘Are you crazy?! The derby is on Saturday! We can’t go out to dinner.’ Everything about the preparation, the experience, is so intense.”
