Reports: AFC give conditional approval to Milan-Como Australia game – the next steps

1 week ago 9

There is still approval missing before the game between AC Milan and Como can officially be moved to Australia, reports claim.

As a reminder, Milan and Serie A are hoping for the game to be played out in Perth, having been forced to move the game because San Siro is unusable from 6 February to 22 February 2026. This is due to the Winter Olympic Games that are being held in Milano-Cortina.

Milan-Como has been scheduled in that window, so the clubs and the league needed to look for an alternative venue. The choice for that venue to be halfway across the world is something that has generated a strong reaction, but not everything is signed and sealed.

Waiting for the AFC

This morning’s Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) states that the Asian Football Federation are willing to give the green light. However, the approval is not absolute.

Instead, it is subject to a series of constraints that Serie A officials are examining. If all these conditions are met, then only the final green light will be missing: the one from football’s governing body, FIFA.

La Gazzetta dello Sport echo the words of their colleagues, stating that there is now a serious chance Milan-Como will become first Serie A match to be played abroad, and the two clubs are doing their utmost to help international institutions make this delicate decision.

Despite the lack of an official statement, the AFC have given a ‘small sign of openness’, tied to stringent regulatory and commercial conditions. A final ruling is expected on December 1st, but it will not even reach FIFA unless the Asian Federation agree.
