Reports: Further tests in London or Paris – why the Mateta to Milan deal is in doubt

1 day ago 30

It seems that the Jean-Philippe Mateta deal will go right down to the wire, with AC Milan looking to do some extra medical checks.

The big news of the past 24 hours is that Milan have agreed a deal worth ‘in excess of €30m’ to sign Mateta from Crystal Palace, as per The Athletic among other sources. However, last night some doubts emerged regarding whether it will go through.

MilanNews have summed up the news from various sources this morning. As reported by Luca Bianchin of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan hae decided to send a doctor to London to assess Mateta’s knee.

Doubts arose after the player underwent medical tests today in England, once Crystal Palace had given the green light for the operation. The doctor’s assessment will put Milan at a crossroads: either Mateta arrives by tomorrow’s deadline or he won’t join at all, even in the summer.

Bianchin adds: “The assessment is now very delicate, especially considering the race against time to close the transfer window by 8 p.m. Will his knees be 100% convincing?

“If Milan feel they can proceed, they will close with Palace and Mateta will arrive in Italy for his first photos with the Rossoneri. Otherwise, the deal won’t proceed, not even in June.”

Fabrizio Romano posted a video on his YouTube channel to discuss the almost paradoxical situation regarding Mateta’s move to Milan being on hold.

“Crystal have now closed for Strand Larsen, but Milan are still waiting to see whether or not to proceed with Mateta. The Rossoneri have a full agreement with the player and the English club.

“In fact, the Frenchman has undergone a medical with Milan in England, and they are now deciding whether to proceed immediately. Within the management, this deal is seen as something that can already be done by January, with the next few hours being crucial.”

Now, Gianluca Di Marzio has also offered his take on current events regarding the 28-year-old, stating on X: “The medical consultation is scheduled in Paris. After the tests, the Rossoneri will decide whether to give the green light.”
