Adriano Galliani’s return to AC Milan is an idea that is being spoken about a lot in the media, but it would not happen immediately.
For a few days now, rumours of Galliani’s possible return to Milan have been growing increasingly insistent. There was speculation that he might replace Paolo Scaroni as president of the Rossoneri, but RedBird have denied this.
Scaroni is regarded very highly by the ownership and he actually has a position within RedBird too, so his departure seems almost impossible. Galliani could return as the head of football, but something must happen first.
Monza sale needed
According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), the Monza CEO is focused on the sale of the Brianza club to the American investment fund Beckett Layne Ventures, whose representative is former Roma director Mauro Baldissoni.
The closing – meaning the actual transfer of the club’s shares to the new owner – is scheduled for September, so it’s impossible to determine when Galliani’s possible return to Milan might happen until then. As a Fininvest man, he’s tasked with overseeing the transfer of ownership.

Pietro Mazzara has also spoken about Galliani’s situation during his latest column for MilanNews, and he confirmed what Tuttosport are saying.
“The second hot topic of the last two weeks has been Adriano Galliani ‘s return. Two days ago, we reported on the current state of affairs, which revealed that there are some important timelines to follow,” he writes.
“First and foremost, Galliani must guide Monza through to the closing [of the sale], and only after that transaction has been successfully completed will he be able to address Gerry Cardinale’s proposal to appoint him as Milan’s ‘foreign minister’, with representation duties in the Lega Serie A but also as a man with experience in managing the sporting area, alongside Giorgio Furlani, Igli Tare, and Massimiliano Allegri.
“It would have been exciting to see him in the role of president, but that post has been filled by Paolo Scaroni, who will now be able to focus solely on the stadium issue, freed from his representation duties in the Lega, where his performance has not been satisfactory in terms of Milan’s political clout.”
