Reports: Milan beat Atalanta and Juventus to signing of Benevento starlet Petrone

AC Milan have beaten several rivals in the race for Daniele Petrone’s signature, reaching an agreement with Benevento and the 16-year-old.

Most of the focus has been on the first team this summer, as one would expect, but there is now some big news for the academy. As was first reported by our correspondent Luca Maninetti, Milan have secured the arrival of Petrone from Benevento.

The striker, who was born in 2009, also attracted the interest of Atalanta, Juventus, Fiorentina and more, according to reports from MilanNews. The fact that the Rossoneri managed to clinch the deal is thus a success. Given his age, Petrone should join the Primavera side.

Who is Petrone?

Granted that there isn’t a lot of information on the youngster, he joined Benevento’s youth ranks in 2023 and got his ‘breakthrough’ with the U16 side this past season. In total, he found the back of the net 13 times.

It probably would have been more if it hadn’t been for a contract disagreement with Benevento, failing to reach an agreement on the professional contract. He was thus excluded from the final games, so the Milan move is coming at the right (and expected) time.

When clubs like Atalanta are keeping tabs on a youngster, there is usually something good behind that. Milan have also identified their fair share of talents over the years, so Petrone’s goalscoring abilities have clearly left a mark.
