Reports: Milan initiate talks over Sassuolo centre-back ahead of January window

A new idea has emerged for AC Milan as they consider strengthening their defence in January: Sassuolo’s Jay Idzes.

As Calciomercato.com report, Milan are admirers of Idzes because he is 1.90m tall, is good in the air and more than capable with the ball at his feet. He can play as a centre-back in pairing or in a three-man defence, either down the middle or as one of the outside options.

Izdes is undoubtedly one of Sassuolo’s most important players at the moment, and though he can improve he has caught the eye of Milan. As journalist Luca Cilli has also reported, the Rossoneri have contacted the defender’s entourage again after previous links, but not Sassuolo directly yet.

Another success story

Sassuolo paid €8m to permanently acquire Idzes from Venezia. This figure was part of a larger deal that also included the purchase of Fali Candé from Venezia, for a total of €11m (plus bonuses).

So far, those investing in him have been left smiling, considering the Venetian club paid just €750,000 for the 25-year-old to get him from Go Ahead Eagles. After this first half of the season, his value will surely approach €10m, but could rise beyond that.

Milan will definitely sign a central defender in January. Liverpool’s Joe Gomez, Lazio’s Mario Gila and Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae are certainly the most desirable names. However, Idzes could become an interesting option, as someone who knows the league too.
