Reports: Young Boys star now ‘one step away’ from Milan after new bid – the figures

AC Milan are working on multiple fronts to try and strengthen Massimiliano Allegri’s squad, and they are close to signing Zachary Athekame.

Milan have been linked with a number of different right-back targets already this summer from Guela Doue and Dodo to Vanderson and Marc Pubill. Athekame’s name is a relatively new entry onto the scene, but the acceleration in negotiations has been obvious.

According to the latest from Matteo Moretto – who spoke during a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel – the Rossoneri are now one step away from signing the young Swiss defender after raising their bid.

“Athekame is one step away from AC Milan. An offer of €8 million plus bonuses. A few details are missing. I expect everything to be finalised between Wednesday and Thursday, given that Young Boys will play against Basel on the 6th,” he said.

‘Almost there’

Fabrizio Romano has also provided an update, stating: AC Milan expect to get Zachary Athekame deal done by the end of this week. After €7m bid rejected, €8m plus add-ons on the table and deal can get done after Young Boys vs. Basel game. Almost there.”

The management have acted quickly, knowing Athekame was being eyed by Bologna above all. Last season, the defender made 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
