Repubblica: Council agree San Siro sale price with Milan and Inter – next few days crucial

A turning point may have finally arrived in the new stadium project as an agreement has been reached over the sale of San Siro.

According to this morning’s edition of La Repubblica, 15 September 2025, may have been a decisive day. The City of Milan – represented by Deputy Mayor Anna Scavuzzo – and the executives of Inter and Milan reportedly reached an agreement for the sale of San Siro to the clubs after lengthy negotiations.

No handshake was reached after yesterday morning’s meeting, but this was merely a strategic decision by the clubs to avoid exposure until the City Council vote. It came on the same day the sport minister Abodi applied some pressure of his own.

A reduced discount

There is a change in the agreement between the the City Council and the clubs. The former will no longer contribute €36m – as requested by Inter and Milan – for reclamation and demolition, but ‘only’ €22m.

It is divided as follows: €12m for the demolition of the current stadium and the reconstruction of the Patroclo Tunnel, and €9.6m for the reclamation of the land, which will then become a park and return to city ownership upon completion of the work.

The two teams will therefore have to shell out €14m more than originally budgeted for the partial demolition and conversion of the current stadium. The €22m co-investment will be deducted from the €197m sale price.

The additional €14m won’t break the bank for the two clubs, despite yesterday’s silence. The City Council are now cautiously optimistic about the success of the operation.

Scavuzzo will meet with the Legality Committee today, along with lawyers and other figures, with the aim of submitting the agreement documents and avoiding legal obstacles as much as possible. The resolution is expected to be presented to the council tomorrow, Thursday at the latest, for approval.

After this step, two committees will be convened to present the document to the councillors, who will then decide which requests to submit. The first available date for the vote in the City Council is Thursday, September 25th, with a closing date of Monday, September 29th.
