Repubblica: Milan and Inter optimistic about San Siro green light – why Monday is crucial

The first round of talks regarding the sale of San Siro were held on Thursday, and Monday remains the decisive day for AC Milan and Inter.

As La Repubblica (via MilanPress) report this morning, the difference between the discussions at the City Hall yesterday and the session on Monday is that the latter will continue indefinitely until a final decision is reached on the future of the stadium.

The first session on Thursday afternoon lasted four hours and, as expected, did not have a definitive outcome. The critical vote will be held on Monday 29 September, with the paper believing that the green light is ‘one step away’.

Two votes needed

Of the 25 votes needed to secure a majority in the Council, it is believed that 23 are in the bag. Two council;ors are also undecided  Monica Romano of the Democratic Party and Marco Fumagalli. The former seemed to have resolved her reservations about voting ‘yes’, but in reality, she hasn’t yet committed.

The latter is currently undergoing a convincing process. Yesterday, he had a lengthy meeting with Emmanuel Conte, Councillor for State Property and the Special Housing Plan. The key to a ‘yes’ vote may have been found, but the councillor prefers to wait until Monday to cast his vote.

To try to convince them as well, there could be openness to some amendments regarding the allocation of funds from the sale of the stadium, strengthening anti-mafia controls and the issue of sustainability, a key concern of Fumagalli.

The goal is to include a white list for companies that will carry out the work. This is a specific request from the Legality Committee, which has highlighted potential critical issues on the issue. These changes to the resolution would not distort the nature of negotiations with the clubs.
