Repubblica: Swing voters to play decisive role in Milan and Inter’s San Siro purchase

Next week, a crucial vote will take place which could well determine the future of AC Milan and Inter’s ‘new San Siro’ project.

After the significant step of obtaining approval from the City Council over the sale of the current stadium and the land around it in recent days, the period between now and the end of the month is decisive.

Why? As La Repubblica (via MilanPress) report, although the notion of the purchase has been approved, there still needs to be enough support for it in the City Hall, because issues as big as the sale of a city landmark requires voting through.

The outcome of the vote is still hard to predict. Among the Democrats, Monica Romano and Angelica Vasile have not yet made up their minds, while Angelo Turco has already said he will vote against.

Marco Fumagalli also remains critical, and his ‘no’ would mean eight votes against pretty much guaranteed. Then, the centre-right parties’ votes would be decisive. Forza Italia’s De Chirico has already announced his vote against, while Forza Italia leader Luca Bernardo has not yet declared yet.

The Greens are still absolutely against, while the representatives of Azione have confirmed their approval. In the next few days, both the majority and opposition groups and parties will meet to decide which path to take.
