Samuele Ricci spoke to the media after AC Milan’s 2-2 draw against Pisa and admitted that he still needs to improve in certain aspects, having received some criticism.
After struggling to get playing time, Ricci has now started in the last two games as Milan have several midfielders on the sidelines. However, just like against Fiorentina, he didn’t leave a huge impression on the fans last night as pointed out in our player ratings.
Speaking to MilanTV after the clash, Ricci was asked about the performance of the team, his role in the midfield and the upcoming game against Atalanta. He pointed out one of Milan’s chronic issues, as well as his own defects.
On the game…
“We are disappointed with the points dropped. In my opinion, we could have done better in the first half, especially after the first goal. We dominated possession and we needed a bit more courage to attack the goal and try to score a few more goals.
“Then we kept going, we probably didn’t start the second half in the best of ways. This is something that has happened before, so it’s something we need to improve. However, as we did against Fiorentina, we reacted after going behind and this is positive.”

On his role…
“I’m feeling really good, connecting with Luka, Fofana and also the other guys who are currently on the sidelines. I try to do what the coach asks of me. Perhaps, sometimes I can have some more characteristics of a playmaker but I also try to take on the role of a mezz’ala.
“I need to improve from a physical point of view as I’m a bit behind.”
On the Atalanta clash..
“We have another chance on Tuesday, there’s no time to think, we need to recover right away. It will definitely be a very difficult match. I know Atalanta and Juric’s style of play, it won’t be an easy game, it will be very physical.
Indeed, a tougher run of games now await Milan and it remains to be seen how they will handle these. The likes of Christian Pulisic and Adrien Rabiot will remain on the sidelines until the November derby, so it could be very difficult for the Rossoneri.
