AC Milan midfielder Samuele Ricci has admitted that there is disappointment after the Coppa Italia exit to Lazio, but the need to quickly refocus.
Ricci’s inclusion in the starting line-up was one of five changes that Massimiliano Allegri made to the team that won in the league on Saturday. Koni De Winter, Pervis Estupinan, Ardon Jashari and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were the others to come into the side.
Ultimately though Milan’s 2025-26 Coppa Italia journey was ended at the round of 16 stage as they were beaten 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico. Again one goal was enough to win it, and time it would be Lazio celebrating as Mattia Zaccagni’s header was decisive with less than 10 minutes to go.
Reaction from Ricci
Ricci spoke at the post-match press conference following the defeat in the capital to give his assessments after what was a disappointing night and result. His comments are via MilanNews.
As a team, you always give your best in the first 10 minutes of the second half. What didn’t work today?
“That’s a tough question. We prepare for the whole match. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but maybe not: during half-time, we push ourselves and push right away. Today, we were lacking a few things; we conceded a goal from a set-piece. We could have done better, and we’re disappointed.”

What is your role on the pitch?
“I do what the coach asks of me: I’ve been more of a regista, but I can also play as a mezzala. I need to improve.”
Are you the favourites for the Scudetto now?
“No, we’re doing well in the league. We’ve been very consistent, we’ve dropped points against some smaller teams, and we’ve won all the big matches. We’re not the favourites; we’ll go against anyone and see.”
