Ricci comments on ‘beautiful match’, improvement since Arsenal and consistency wishes

After the 4-2 win against Liverpool, new AC Milan signing Samuele Ricci spoke about the performance and recent improvements.

For Ricci, it is not a case of improving since last season. Instead, it is a case of improving since he arrived, comparing to last year would be unfair to him. However, he can certainly comment on the improvements between games.

There are countless similarities between Liverpool and Arsenal; both are top European teams. In the two games, Milan were able to compete, though they went one step further against the Merseyside team, winning, compared to the 1-0 loss against the Gunners.

Perhaps, it would be fairer to say that the Rossoneri dominated against the Premier League champions, at least in terms of chances.

Ricci’s thoughts

Much of what Ricci said post-game mirrored the words of his coach, Massimiliano Allegri, with both stating that the consistency from here is important, and the midfielder’s review of the game was shown when he spoke to MilanTV.

“It was a beautiful match; firstly, the atmosphere here. The stadium is absolutely stunning. It was a fantastic setting. Then, there’s the opponent we faced, and the quality of our performance.

“The most important thing, which I noticed on the field, and I think could be seen from off it too, was that we improved considerably compared to the game against Arsenal when we struggled to develop counterattacks vertically, which we did today and created numerous opportunities.

“That’s what the coach asks of us: to be more consistent. We know our opponent’s value, and we respected them. On a technical level, they might be better than us, and that forced us to play in a slightly different way, pressing up more tightly. I think a solid defensive performance is great when you don’t concede and you score!

“We’ve got a wonderful group; the coach and his staff have done great in creating the group. There’s a relaxed atmosphere, so we can get on with our work in peace. Most importantly, when we’re on the field, we’re all fully focused and we all give everything for AC Milan. That’s what matters most.”
