AC Milan are in a fantastic position, and Samuele Ricci, a seemingly nailed-on starter, is sitting behind a starting midfield trio.
When Tijjani Reijnders left, Ricci was quickly at Milan. The Italian has been liked by the club for years, and when the opportunity arose, he arrived. However, others also joined over the summer months, and he now finds himself in a strange position.
With Torino, he was the captain and a regular starter, if not the first name on the team sheet. In the Rossoneri team, though, he is struggling for regular minutes due to the quality ahead of him. However, there is a plan for him.
Ricci’s comments
Of course, sitting behind Luka Modric in the pecking order is understandable, and it cannot be a write-off of time, far from it. In fact, Ricci can learn a lot from the Maestro, and this will only improve an already gifted young midfielder.
After the game, he discussed several things, but also touched on his national team future, via Calciomercato.com.
Gattuso’s comments on not being called up? An added motivation?
“It’s always nice to be called up to the national team. I wasn’t called up, but that’s okay; I need to get some minutes. Maybe he’ll call up whoever he thinks is best. I’m working and will always work to reach my goal, which is the national team.”

Leao scored a brace, and how much do you enjoy working alongside a master like Modric?
“Two spectacular guys, we know how important they are to this group, both on and off the pitch. I’m very happy for Rafa; he’s been through a so-so period, maybe even the injury. Today, he helped us win; we know his qualities. Modric is a champion, let’s hope he continues like this.
Has Allegri given you much advice?
“He’s a great coach. He wants to keep everyone on top of things; he knows how important everyone is.”
