Samuele Ricci came off the bench for AC Milan against Pisa and ended up playing an important role, expressing great delight afterwards.
Massimiliano Allegri opted for Youssouf Fofana in the midfield role to the right, relying on the Frenchman’s defensive work. However, as soon as attacking output was needed, he brought on Ricci and that was a very important decision.
Indeed, Ricci got the assist for Luka Modric’s winner and was rated highly in our player ratings piece. Afterwards, he shared his thoughts with DAZN (via MilanNews) and praised the veteran for making that run so late in the game.
What did you think before passing Modric the ball?
“He passed me the ball, and honestly, I expected anyone but him. Instead, he came out of nowhere, from behind. Despite his age, he’s always hungry to win and never gives up an inch. He’s an example for us and for everyone.”
You are a cohesive group…
“It’s a great strength. Often, those who get less playing time eventually shut down. However, the coach told us from the start to always stay focused and never give up. This is a strength that, in the long run, perhaps towards the end of the games, gives you something extra.”

What more did Allegri give you?
“We all need to feel like starters. Sometimes you start, sometimes you come on for five or 15 minutes. You always have to be ready. We don’t wear just any jersey; we always have to honour it and give more than we can, more than 100%.
“The coach has always focused on character, mentality, and the desire to win. Today was perhaps a bit of a bad game, but taking three points is a good sign.”
How much do you believe in the Scudetto?
“It’s definitely a pleasure to be up there with all those high-quality teams. We take it game by game; we still have a lot of room for improvement. Even in a game like today, you have to be able to finish it off, even if things went south after the missed penalty.”
Como are up next for Milan and it remains to be seen if Ricci will get the chance from start. He’s surely knocking on the door after tonight’s performance, especially since Adrien Rabiot will be suspended against Cesc Fabregas’ side.
