Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Fiorentina, Samuele Ricci spoke to the media and seconded that it’s a great opportunity for him personally.
Ricci has spent a lot of time on the bench at the start of this season, which perhaps wasn’t what he envisioned in the summer. Indeed, he impressed during pre-season and looked nailed on for a starting spot, but the brilliance of Luka Modric is hard to compete against.
Speaking to DAZN ahead of tonight’s game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Ricci shared his thoughts on the starting spot. He stated that it’s a great opportunity for him to showcase his qualities in front of the Milan fans and, above all, Max Allegri.
So many absences, so much responsibility? What an opportunity this is for you, your first league start…
“It’s a great opportunity. I’ve worked hard these past few weeks. Maybe I’ve been given less space, as can happen in a big team. I knew that, and I’m fine with that. I’m working to improve myself and do what’s good for the team.
“This could be my chance, but more importantly, it could be everyone’s chance to do well and take first place in the standings,” he stated.
As we highlighted in an article last night, Ricci didn’t impress massively when he last played from start (Lecce in the Coppa Italia), and that has made tonight’s game even more important for him. With a good display tonight, he could be looking at more consistent playing time.
