Ricci happy with ‘extraordinary’ reaction vs. Fiorentina: “Our duty is to win games”

Samuele Ricci has admitted that being an AC Milan player means an obligation to win, which the whole squad is helping them to do.

Milan had to come from behind against Fiorentina, but they had Rafael Leao to thank as they completed a second-half turnaround to win 2-1. Robin Gosens got the opener to stun the home crowd, but the Portuguese stepped up with a striker from range and a penalty.

Ricci is someone who has had to be patient this season, having arrived from Torino in the summer. He has been behind Luka Modric, Adrien Rabiot and Youssouf Fofana in the pecking order but got the start against La Viola because of the injury crisis.

Ricci’s reaction

Milan go top of the league as a result of the three points, and Ricci spoke to SportMediaset after the game to offer his thoughts on another important and hard-fought victory in front of the home fans.

A team win, right at the end…

“We knew we were going into a very difficult match. It had even started badly. But I think there was also a great reaction from the group. I have to congratulate Rafa too, obviously, but congratulations also go to all the guys, because we played an extraordinary match even in a difficult moment.”

What’s the atmosphere like in the dressing room?

“We’re at Milan, so our duty is to win games. We knew it was a tough match, and we knew how important this game was, because with a win we’d be top of the table. So we fought until the end. It was a hard-fought victory, but a team victory.”

This team can really count on the whole group…

“Yes, I do. The coach repeats it every day that we’re a group, so we need all the members. Personally, I could have done even better and I need to get some match rhythm, as is right, because I’ve found less space. But I’m happy with my path and with the path the team is taking.”
