Ricci rises but La Dea dominate: All the key stats from Atalanta vs. AC Milan

AC Milan had to settle for a second straight draw in the league as they emerged from Bergamo with a 1-1 against Atalanta.

Milan made a very promising start to the game with Samuele Ricci’s goal in the fourth minute, his first for the club and from distance too. However, Atalanta responded through Lookman in the 35th minute, and the scoreline would remain that way after a goalless second half.

Domination from La Dea

After the game, Atalanta boss Ivan Juric boldly remarked: “I think Atalanta had triple the intensity of Milan. It wasn’t a contest. We dominated from start to finish. They had a shot and a goal, and then it was all Atalanta after ten minutes in the second half.”

The stats suggest he might have a point. Atalanta had 17 total shots to Milan’s six, while the Rossoneri managed just one shot on target to the three that the home side had. Not only that, but La Dea racked up nine corners to four, and had 1.31 Expected Goals as opposed to 0.33 for Allegri’s men.

Ricci rises

Samuele Ricci’s goal with 3:12 on the game clock is the fastest goal scored by Milan away in Serie A since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s (1:58) against Venezia, on January 9, 2022.

Ricci (one goal and one assist in Serie A so far) is one of four midfielders – along with Lazar Samardžić, Nicolò Barella and Mario Pasalić – with at least one goal and one assist in each of the last five Serie A seasons (since 2021-22).

In a midfield that generally struggled, the Italian stood out in front of Gennaro Gattuso. He completed 37/38 passes (97%) including 24/25 in the Atalanta half and 14/14 in his own half. He also completed 3/3 long balls, with a key pass and four clearances to his name too.

Runs continue

Milan have remained unbeaten for nine consecutive matches in all competitions (6W, 3D) for the first time since April-May 2023 (nine at that time, with Stefano Pioli as coach).

The Rossoneri have drawn two consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since December 2024 and January 2025 (against Roma and Cagliari at that time).

Four of AC Milan’s last five goals in Serie A have come from outside the box. The Diavolo have already surpassed the number of long-range goals scored in the last top-flight tournament (three).
