Just four matchdays remain before the big Derby della Madonnina clash between AC Milan and Inter. With just five points separating the teams still, it’s possible that the game could decide a whole lot.
Considering that Milan have been able to keep up with Inter so far, sort of, the Scudetto race is still alive. Many have also named the derby clash as a decider of sorts, since a win in that one would get the Rossoneri closer and also hurt the Nerazzurri’s confidence.
Few are expecting it to actually become a race that goes down to the wire, especially not Milan fans, but the possibility is there. After all, Inter have a pretty tough schedule on the cards and the Rossoneri, if they can continue to collect points, could find themselves in a good position.
Very different schedules
Let’s take a look at the different schedules. You will notice that matchday 24, which is the current one, is played at a later date for Milan. That is because San Siro has been occupied for the Winter Olympics inauguration.

- Milan-Parma: February 22, 18:00
- Cremonese-Milan: TBA (February 27-March 1)
Inter
- Sassuolo-Inter: February 8, 18:00
- Inter-Juventus: February 14, 20:45
- Bodo/Glimt-Inter: February 18, 21:00
- Lecce-Inter: February 21, 18:00
- Inter-Bodo/Glimt: February 24, 21:00
- Inter-Genoa: TBA (February 27-March 1)
Since they have Champions League commitments, a rather tough one we should add with the away trip to northern Norway, Inter’s schedule is a lot more packed. One could argue that they have the depth to handle the situation, but it’s still not ideal ahead of such a game.
A lot will depend on what happens in the upcoming runs. If Milan were to maintain the five-point gap, or even shorten it, then the derby will suddenly become a lot more important. We all know what happened in 2021-22, when the Rossoneri were four points behind.
Massimiliano Allegri has always maintained that Milan are fighting for a spot in the top four and nothing more. At the same time, though, he has also said that they will take stock of the situation sometime in March. Lo and behold, the derby is scheduled for March 8 (most likely)…
