Brazil legend Roberto Carlos is still backing Liverpool to win the Premier League, despite the Reds’ worrying slump in recent weeks.
Arne Slot’s side fell to its fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions on Sunday as it lost 2-1 at home to Manchester United. Byran Mbeumo and Harry Maguire’s goals either side of Cody Gakpo’s strike saw Liverpool lose more ground on Arsenal at the top of the table, with the Reds now sitting four points off the pace in the title race, having led by five just a few games ago.
The fallout continues following Liverpool’s latest capitulation, with all of its recent league defeats having followed the same pattern, having drawn level after producing a number of chances to score, only to then concede late on and succumb to defeat.
Concerns have grown following the Reds’ major overhaul in the summer, with a number of its new signings coming in for criticism in recent weeks.
Despite their continued slump, and Arsenal now emerging as this season’s favorite for the title, Carlos is sticking by Slot’s side.
Taking part in a quickfire question and answer session for FUTBIN.com, the former Real Madrid left-back was asked which team will win the Premier League this season, to which he replied: “Liverpool.”
Carlos went on to give his opinion on other subjects, including tipping Erling Haaland to finish as the Premier League’s top scorer, while backing his former team Real to win the Champions League, explaining: “They are more used to winning than anyone else.”
He was also asked about Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has had a tricky start at the Bernabeu following his summer move from Liverpool.
The former Reds vice-captain found himself in and out of the team under Xabi Alonso, before a hamstring injury on his European debut for the club has seen him miss recent games, although he could still make his return to Anfield next month.

Despite his struggles, a number of pundits have suggested that the Reds - and in particular, Mohamed Salah - are missing Alexander-Arnold, and Carlos has backed him to find his feet in Madrid.
Asked whether Alexander-Arnold will be able to establish himself as a key player for Real, Carlos responded: “Yes, he is a top player.”
Liverpool.com says: We'll take that, although you do wonder how much of Liverpool Roberto Carlos has actually seen this season. He might change his opinion if he saw how the Reds have been playing.
If things continue in the same way, then it's hard to see how Liverpool gets itself back in the running for the title. There is still a long way to go, of course, but the Reds need to improve dramatically, and quickly.
