Roberto Firmino enjoys two major achievements in one day as Darwin Nunez suffers

Liverpool hero Roberto Firmino has won another trophy with Al Sadd — the club in the Qatari first division that he now represents — while he also helped fire the team past Al Hilal in the Asian Champions League.

On Monday, Al Sadd secured its 19th Qatar Stars League title, marking a historic achievement under the guidance of former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. Firmino was a key man throughout the campaign.

Al Sadd has become a dominant force in Qatari soccer, winning a third consecutive league title and a sixth in the last eight seasons. This latest victory was secured by Al Shamal dropping points to Qatar SC with one matchday to go.

Firmino played a pivotal role throughout the campaign, contributing significantly in attack and finishing the season with 16 goal contributions in 20 league matches. Teammate Akram Afif was important too, as he netted 14 league goals and provided 12 assists. And the good news for Al Sadd didn't stop domestically.

The team also moved into the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League on the same day, beating the Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal — where Darwin Nunez now plays — on penalties.

That's desperate news for Nunez, who is not eligible to play in the Saudi Pro League after being cut from Al Hilal's squad. He was still eligible to play in the Asian Champions League, but with Al Hilal now out of that competition, Nunez will struggle to get many minutes under his belt before this year's World Cup in North America.

Firmino scored in the game but missed in the shootout, but it didn't matter. Ex-Real Madrid man Karim Benzema was also among those to fail to convert at the end, meaning Al Sadd progressed. Nunez didn't play due to suspension.

Earlier this season, Firmino offered his verdict on Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, who moved to Liverpool to form another potentially iconic frontline just like the one he was involved in with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

"They've already proved that they're top-class players," he said. "I didn't know Ekitike before he joined Frankfurt.

"But he's already shown his potential with goals and performances and seems to have a lot of desire to become a historic player for the club.

"I wish them both the best. It's only the beginning of their time at Liverpool. Yes, of course (I still follow Liverpool). They had a good start to the season, now they've suffered a drop in performance.

"But I'm sure they'll soon be back with everything they've got to compete for all the trophies."

Liverpool.com says: All Reds fans will enjoy Firmino winning things and doing well. At his best, he was one of the most elegant and hard-working players around — an incredible combination of energy and silky skills.
