Romano: Akanji headed to Inter after rejecting Milan move – the situation

AC Milan seemed to be progressing with a move for Manuel Akanji this week. However, the Manchester City defender said no.

The need for another defender came around last weekend, after a meeting between Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri. A few names were thrown around, but that of Akanji took the lead quite quickly, and negotiations took place in the final days of August.

An agreement was reached with Manchester City, leading Milan to begin negotiations with the player. However, no agreement could be reached, with the Swissman not moving his salary requests and preferring a move to the Champions League.

Akanji still heads to Milano

Despite this, though, he will still play at San Siro next season. Fabrizio Romano, in the past few minutes, states that the defender has agreed on a move to Inter, with things advancing very quickly in the past few hours.

He will move to the Nerazzurri on loan, though the club will have the option to make the deal permanent next summer for €15 million. However, if they win the Scudetto, with him playing regularly, that option will be made obligatory.

Back at Casa Milan, the Rossoneri had moved on to Joe Gomez after the rejection, but even that deal seems difficult to finalise now.
