Zachary Athekame started for Young Boys last night against Basel, but that was always the plan and a move to AC Milan remains close.

After signing Ardon Jashari to complete the midfield and with the striker pursuit not gaining much ground, Igli Tare and co. are hoping to finish the defence first. After countless links, it seems Athekame is the target that is moving closer to joining.

In fact, a report from Blick.ch – a Swiss source – confirmed yesterday that the 20-year-old should head to Milan before the weekend to complete a move in the region of €9m. This is despite the fact he was named in the starting XI for Young Boys last night.

At the final stages

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update, stating: “Zachary Athekame starts for Young Boys today as always planned… and from tomorrow will ask the president to join AC Milan. €8m plus add-ons bid on the table from AC Milan, deal at final stages.”

It is worth noting, Matteo Moretto previously stated that Young Boys wanted to focus 100% on the match against Basel scheduled for Wednesday evening. Thus, they were always going to wait for this games before giving the green light to Athekame’s move to Milan. However, it is ‘almost done’.
