Romano: Christmas arrives early as Origi finally agrees to terminate Milan deal

This morning, two sleeps before Christmas, AC Milan may have already been given their first present of the period, with Divock Origi leaving. 

The debacle regarding Origi and his future has plagued Milan for an extended period now. Last season, there were hopes that he would leave in January, and failing that, in the summer. However, he did not leave.

In the summer, it seemed that a contract termination could be agreed upon, especially with Fode Ballo-Toure departing. However, nothing could be settle, so he remained with the Rossoneri for longer than most hoped.

Now, though, the saga seems to be done, with the Diavolo reportedly agreeing to a contract termination.

As Fabrizio Romano reports on his X account, the Belgian has signed the paperwork to end his time at the club, making him available from the start of 2026. He has been ‘outside of the project’ since 2024, so this is the end of a multi-year ordeal.

Of course, it has taken much longer than most will have hoped, and with his deal expiring in the summer, Milan have spent more on his contract than was hoped. Nevertheless, they have been given a first gift of Christmas and a nice boost to the wage bill.
