Mike Maignan was courted by several clubs before AC Milan announced the contract renewal, but Inter was never an option for the goalkeeper.
On Saturday last week, Milan confirmed that Maignan had signed a new contract with the club until 2031. As such, a tiring saga was put to an end and it was certainly something for the Rossoneri fans to celebrate.
In addition to his fantastic performances on the pitch, the fact that the previous contract was expiring in the summer made the situation thorny for Milan. They did enough to convince the player in the end, even if a lot of clubs were interested.
Inter rumours shut down
In his latest video, Fabrizio Romano discussed the importance of the renewal and also shared a background on the negotiations. Bayern Munich could have been a destination for the Frenchman, though the same cannot be said for a domestic solution.
“Although there has been a lot of talk about Chelsea, who tried to sign him before the Club World Cup last summer, Bayern Munich made the most evaluations on Maignan from June onwards. However, they opted not to proceed.
“Juventus had internal discussions as they have a great relationship with the player’s agents, but they never made an official offer. There was also talk of Inter in Italian media but it seems to me that it was never an option, Maignan would never have made such a decision,” he stated.
