Giovanni Leoni is one of the most exciting young defenders in Italy, and a report today suggests that AC Milan are not the only ones considering a move.
There, as you would expect, is a growing amount of attention towards Leoni. The central defender has been identified by Massimiliano Allegri as another Chiellini-type player, and he wants him at Milan. However, interest from England is also emerging.
What may be off-putting for everyone is the price, which currently stands at €40 million, which the Italian clubs could not afford.
Leoni difficulty
This morning, Fabrizio Romano (via MilanXtra) spoke about the situation.
“Parma are asking for €40M for defender Giovanni Leoni — a figure no club is currently willing to match. Inter have pushed the most due to Chivu’s influence, but both AC Milan and Juventus have also shown interest. Leoni, meanwhile, is open to staying at Parma for another season.”
Staying at Parma for another season may not be the worst thing for the Rossoneri, as it means they can potentially attack a move with more intensity. However, there is no guarantee that he will still be available generally, or for the same price, in 12 months.
It is certainly difficult to unpack.
