In the run-up to this summer, Maxim De Cuyper’s name had been linked to AC Milan heavily. However, he will go elsewhere.
With Theo Hernandez’s situation not improving in the past 18 months, Milan have been looking extensively at the left-back market. Then, it seemed that they found the perfect heir to the Frenchman: Club Brugge defender De Cuyper.
Links have been prevalent for months, and in the past week, it was even stated that the Rossoneri had an agreement with the Belgian, who ‘wanted’ the move to San Siro. However, it will not arrive.
Milan miss out
Competing for his signature, alongside Milan, were Brighton, and Fabrizio Romano reports that the left-back will move to the Premier League on his X account, with his signature ‘here we go’ tagline.
Maxim De Cuyper to Brighton, here we go! Club to club agreement now sealed for €20m fixed fee plus add-ons.
De Cuyper will undergo medical and sign in the next 24h, documents are ready.

The Seagulls have reached an agreement with Brugge at €20 million with future add-ons, a figure which the Rossoneri could have tabled with the sale of Theo. Everything is now ready for him to join Brighton, and he will have a medical today.
Considering how long the Diavolo have been watching the gem, there can certainly be questions asked about the failure to sign him, especially with him agreeing to a deal with the club in the past few days.
