Romano responds to Son Heung-min to Milan rumours: “Needed to be clarified”

Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on the idea that AC Milan could bring Son Heung-min to Italy in the winter mercato.

A report emerged last week claiming that Son could join Milan for the second half of the season on a loan deal, taking advantage of the winter break in Major League Soccer. It would be an operation similar to the one that brought David Beckham to the Rossoneri in the late 2000s.

While the logic checks out with regards to the former Spurs star potentially wanting to stay fit in a top league before the 2026 World Cup in the USA, the report did not come from a reliable source. Then, Matteo Moretto denied the rumours over the weekend.

Strong denials arrive

In a video published a few hours ago on YouTube, Romano attempted to shed some light on the matter and it would be fair to say that he does not think there is much chance of the move materialising.

“There’s been a lot of talk in recent weeks about a loan deal, but Milan – as Matteo Moretto anticipated – don’t see a chance of signing Son in the January transfer window. We haven’t heard of any contact so far,” he said.

“I can add that there are also strong denials from the player’s side. But it’s not a question of Milan, it’s precisely Heung-Min Son’s wishes: he’s focused on Los Angeles FC, he’s not thinking of moving yet.

“So, total focus on the MLS, the striker is not in talks with Milan or any other teams. This rumour is unconfirmed on either side – it was an issue that needed to be clarified.”
