Sergio Ramos would be open to considering a move to Serie A on a free transfer, and is looking for a Modric-type impact somewhere.
In the past few days, the news emerged from several reliable sources claiming that Ramos has decided to bring an end to his short stint in Mexico as he wishes to return to Europe, hoping for a big club that can boost his World Cup hopes however slim they might be.
Naturally, Milan – who have been tipped to move for an experienced central defender – were among the first clubs linked. The Spaniard has previously spoken about his admiration for the Rossoneri and club legend Paolo Maldini, while he was linked with a move by El Chiringuito back in 2021.
Romano: Ramos open to Italy
Speaking in a video on his Italian YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano shed some light on Ramos’ situation and he confirmed that a move to Italy is not an unrealistic possibility.
“First of all, Sergio Ramos is leaving Mexico, Rayados Monterrey, the team he’s played for in recent months. He played in the Club World Cup, and scored even against Inter,” he began.
“In short, Sergio Ramos has shown that he’s not just a big name, a legend of football, but also a player who knows still how to contribute. He did well in Mexico, Monterrey did well, he played a lot, his leadership was highly appreciated.

“The club would have kept him with them, but Ramos wants to have a different experience. In his heart, he has a very small hope, it’s really very difficult. The very small hope of making the World Cup is clearly very complicated, very improbable.
“He wants a different experience. Ramos doesn’t intend to retire, his contract expires now, so the Ramos opportunity isn’t for June, the Ramos opportunity is right away, it’s for January, it’s for a team that might need an extra defender, an extra leader who can help.
“He doesn’t expect to play every game, but can be helpful in the rotation and be an important piece on and off the field. And Ramos is ready. Ramos is ready to have a different experience. I can tell you that the Italian league would also be very intriguing for Sergio Ramos.
“In recent years, he’s been offered, for example, a few years ago, I’m talking, I repeat right away, about a two-year-old link with Inter. The Inter idea, however, didn’t warm up before he went to Sevilla. There were other opportunities too.
“Juventus was discussed when Bremer was injured, but it was never a concrete discussion, just as it wasn’t with Inter. Ramos, however, would be open to the Italian league, I say this 100%. So there would be interest from the player.
“Between now and the January transfer window, we’ll see if anyone is interested or not, but it’s an opportunity for now. Ramos wants to change teams now and he doesn’t intend to retire, and so be careful because Sergio Ramos is putting himself on the market a bit.
“This is certainly a very interesting discussion right now, especially in relation to Italy. We don’t know of any clubs having made any moves, but it’s just a few days since this choice by Ramos. We’ll see if anyone will turn on a light bulb.
“Our league has once again proven to be the best home for champions, as we’ve seen so many, Luka Modric is just the latest, who choose a different opportunity to be protagonists in a different league.
“Modric at Milan has had an extraordinary impact. Ramos also has this kind of desire to find the right opportunity. We’ll see if he’ll be in Italy, it would be nice, but today I’ll tell you about his desire to leave and this possible openness to our league.”
