Romano states that Mateta is tempted by Italy with Milan interested: “Summer or January”

In the past few months, Jean Philippe Mateta’s name has been on the minds of AC Milan fans after an attempted summer transfer. However, he might not be leaving England yet.

There have been many strikers linked to Milan in the past few months, and Mateta is certainly one of the more high-profile options. The Frenchman was a target in the summer, but with no need to sell, Crystal Palace were against the move.

After winning the FA Cup and the Community Shield, they had their own ambitions to progress. However, it seems that Mateta’s ambitions may no longer align with the Eagles’.

Mateta to Milan?

Reports have recently suggested that he wants a new experience, with Italy and the Rossoneri being linked together regularly. So far, no movement has been made, but Fabrizio Romano has today confirmed that there is interest, and it could be acted upon in the near future.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, his words have been relayed by MilanNews.

“He was on AC Milan’s list in the summer, but dealing with Crystal Palace isn’t easy. I can tell you, however, that the message I’m getting is that Mateta is ready for a different experience.

“I confirm the temptation of Italy for 2026; we’ll see if it’s in the summer or January, although the winter transfer window is a difficult one, and I don’t think Crystal Palace can let go of someone like Mateta.

“I can add that the last real contact between the player and Palace regarding a renewal was in August. Since then, there has been no further contact; Mateta doesn’t seem very inclined to renew his contract, which expires in 2027.

“I can confirm that Italy is a destination he would consider, as well as staying in the Premier League.”
