Roy Keane makes Liverpool 'crisis' claim following bruising Man City defeat

2 hours ago 32

Roy Keane has claimed Liverpool is in “crisis” following the Reds’ 3-0 loss against Manchester City on Sunday.

Arne Slot’s side was second best for long spells at the Etihad and was comfortably beaten by City, with Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzalez and Jeremy Doku on target for the hosts. For Liverpool, this was a fifth defeat in six Premier League matches and a seventh in 10 in all competitions.

Slot admitted post-match that there is no point discussing whether Liverpool will be involved in the title race this season, with the priority now on improving its performance levels after a staggering downturn in the first third of the term. It’s a view Keane agrees with.

“At this moment, you can't be considering Liverpool for the title,” the Irishman said on Sky Sports.

“That's five losses now. The type of goals they're giving away... people keep on talking about their attacking players, but defensively they are all over the place.

“The amount of goals they're giving up... this will feel like the worst defeat. Some of the other games they lost last minute, tight games, but that one will be a sore one.' He added: 'It's crisis time for Liverpool.”

This was a day to forget for Liverpool at the Etihad

The defeat for Liverpool means it currently sits eighth in the table, trailing leaders Arsenal by eight points.

As for City, after a sticky start to the season, Pep Guardiola’s side looks like a serious player once again.

Keane was not impressed with Liverpool's performance against City

“This reminded me of City of old,” said Keane. “They were outstanding. They are back in the mix.”

The Blues are second following Sunday’s 3-0 win and is four points behind Arsenal, who suffered a shock slip-up at Sunderland, drawing 2-2 thanks to an injury-time equalizer from Brian Brobbey.

Liverpool returns to action after the international break with a home clash against Nottingham Forest, while City heads to Newcastle United, another side that has underwhelmed so far this season.
