With Marc Guehi's contract expiring in 2026, there might be a chance for Liverpool to get a relatively good price for the Crystal Palace defender this summer — and an awkward exchange was spotted over the weekend.
Crystal Palace drew 0-0 at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea, and at the end of the match, Guehi appeared to ignore his manager, Oliver Glasner, who was trying to get his attention. The Austrian seemed confused by it and appeared to then asked Jean-Philippe Mateta about the 'snub', which happened in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
Pundit Roy Keane, though, was keen not to make anything of it in the studio post-match. "Can I ask you something? Why has this been happening for the last year or two?" Keane said.
"Managers come on the pitch and shake hands with everybody when you have had a tough game. Guehi's just had a tough match, he's probably physically exhausted, and the manager's coming up trying to chit-chat, knowing there's talk about him leaving.
"As a player, you don't want to get involved with that. I've had managers come up after the game. What's up with you? If you want a chat, we'll do it inside. Managers all want to do something on the pitch. That's come in the last few years.
"What happened to a manager shaking the other manager's hand and walking down the tunnel? It's just a league match. I'm trying to see it from the player's point of view. He's had a tough game, and the manager, are you playing games?"
Even after signing Giovanni Leoni from Parma last week, Liverpool could still move for England international Guehi as well. The player would be open to the move and doesn't want to pen new terms at Selhurst Park.
"We'd have to do that, of course," Steve Parish admitted around a week ago when he was asked about the possibility of cashing in on Guehi. "For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it's a problem for us, unfortunately.
"Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn't afford to lose both. We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January, but that was a different situation.
"We'll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind."

Guehi, for his part, has stayed silent on his future. He played in the Community Shield against Liverpool, lifting the silverware at Wembley after the Eagles won on penalties.
He then played the full game at Stamford Bridge as Crystal Palace earned a point on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. Guehi's side might even have won had he not been stood too close to the wall on a free-kick, which saw Eberechi Eze's brilliant strike ruled out after a VAR check.
Liverpool.com says: Guehi, for the right price, would be a good addition for Liverpool. The Reds should not be paying over the odds, though, and he would have to accept that he wouldn't be an automatic starter every game, as he is at the moment.
