Ruben Amorim gives brutally honest response to Alejandro Garnacho's Man Utd return

Ruben Amorim has put Alejandro Garnacho out of sight - and out of mind - as the ex-Manchester United winger prepares to return to Old Trafford. The Argentine has been handed a swift return to his former employers as new club Chelsea travel to Manchester on Saturday evening.

The game signals Garnacho's first opportunity to return to Old Trafford since a £40millionswitch to west London. Asked about his former player, United boss Amorim claims he hasn't even given the forward a second thought.

He said: "Garnacho is not our player, I'm focused on our players. I'm really happy with Mason and Cunha returning. The rest, talk to the Chelsea manager."

Maresca has, actually, spoken out on Garnacho, who has so far made two appearances for Chelsea. He made his debut in the Blues' 2-2 Premier League draw with Brentford, before then making another cameo in the midweek defeat to Bayern Munich.

Enzo Maresca has hinted that he is now ready to be handed a place in the starting XI against his former side. He said: "In the last two games, he was very good when he came on.

"So we are happy with the way he has adapted to our style and what we want from the winger. I think he's ready to start a game."

Garnacho, 21, made 144 appearances for United after making his debut as a teenager. Over that time, he scored 26 goals for the club.

But things went awry for the forward last season after a very public falling out with Amorim. It was clear during the summer that Garnacho faced little future at Old Trafford.

There was interest in his services from Italian champions Napoli - but Chelsea eventually got a deal over the line after a period of protracted talks. And after leaving, Garnacho penned an emotional statement to his former club.

He wrote: "Dear Manchester. After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close.

"We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this. To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me.

"Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had. I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what's to come.

"Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career."
