Ahead of the big game between AC Milan and Roma, Alexis Saelemaekers spoke to the media and discussed facing his former side.

Milan are eager to get back to winning ways this evening, following two consecutive draws, and a strong performance will be needed to succeed. Indeed, Roma are the opponents and Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have also started the season well.

Saelemaekers is in the starting eleven and for the Belgian, it’s a special game given he spent last season on loan at Roma. Speaking to DAZN, as transcribed by VoceGiallorossa, the No.56 said that he’s still keeping in touch with Paulo Dybala, while warning that the Giallorossi have always been strong.

Have you spoken to any of your former teammates?

“Every now and then, I talk to Dybala, with whom I have a good relationship. Every player is focused on the match. Today, for us, the most important thing is to get the three points and take a step forward on our path.”

What’s your relationship with the coach, and how much is he helping you grow?

“The coach has shown his faith in me ever since we returned to Milanello. I always try to repay him by giving my all on the pitch. He helps me grow with lots of advice and at the same time, he gives me a lot of freedom on the pitch. We hope to continue like this and achieve good results in the future.”

Are Roma stronger now than last season?

“Roma have always been a strong team, even in the history of Italian football. But today, for us, the most important thing is to focus on Milan and hope to get something to show for it.”

The wing-back has certainly become a favourite of Massimiliano Allegri, doing exactly what most fans expected in the summer. Compared to his previous time at Milan, however, the feeling is that Saelemaekers has improved his output.
