Maurizio Sarri could have been in the AC Milan dugout for tomorrow’s clash. However, Massimiliano Allegri was chosen to lead the club forward.

Throughout last season, there were constant suggestions that Milan could look to hire Sarri. An Italian coach with experience at the top of Serie A, an almost perfect candidate. However, it would not be him, once again.

There have been several instances where he has come close to the job, and if it were to be any time, it felt like it would be this summer. However, Igli Tare decided against a reunion, and he will be glad to have done so, considering where the Diavolo sit.

Sarri’s press conference

This weekend’s game is a massive test for the Rossoneri, given they face a direct opposite of them in many ways. Sarri aims to impress, whilst Allegri aims to win. Speaking at his press conference today, the Lazio coach spoke about his season so far, and the summer links, via MilanPress.

“I imagined this would be a challenging year, though not that challenging. These have been the busiest five months of my career, but in a certain sense, also the most enjoyable: I have a group behind me.

“Am I different from my first experience at Lazio? My patience probably increases as I get older, but I doubt I’m any more resilient.”

The Milan links…

“Summer romances no longer have any meaning. I’m sitting on the Lazio bench, so that’s fine.”

First meeting with Allegri…

“It ended 0-0. No shots on target, a disgraceful spectacle. My relationship with Max? Good, he’s Tuscan, so good. You may have a different idea of football, but we still have a good relationship.”
