AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni has insisted that while the club have agreements with Inter away from the field, there will still be a great rivalry on the pitch.
Milan take on Inter in the ‘away’ derby tonight hoping to continue their positive trend in the fixture. Last season the Rossoneri prevailed in three of five derbies, drawing the other two, leading to a triumph in the Supercoppa Italiana final and a win in the Coppa Italia semi-final tie.
That was a Simone Inzaghi’s Inter side that faced Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao Milan teams. Now, it is Cristian Chivu at the helm of the Nerazzurri, while Massimiliano Allegri has returned for a second stint with the Diavolo. Both teams will use a 3-5-2, but the styles are very contrasting.
Scaroni speaks before Inter vs. AC Milan
Scaroni spoke alongside his counterpart Beppe Marotta in the build-up to kick-off on DAZN. His comments were relayed by MilanPress.
It’s the first derby at a San Siro that the clubs fully own…
“We’ve shared the stadium for a long time. Today we own it, but we’ve been managing it together for many years. We went through a long process together to reach the purchase, but good things always take time.
“We’re very happy with what we’ve achieved. The new stadium needs to be as iconic as the current one, where the clubs have enjoyed so much success.”
Milan have made a good start…
“We’ve worked to make our team competitive, and I think we’ve succeeded. As Max Allegri says: the numbers are drawn up in March. It’s still early to draw conclusions, but we’re confident and optimistic.
“We’ve built many agreements with Inter around the stadium, but there will be a lot of rivalry over the next hour and a half.”
