Scaroni: Stadium sale agreement ‘good news’ but Milan and Inter are ‘not at the end yet’

Paolo Scaroni is happy with the news that has arrived regarding the new stadium project, but expressed some caution too.

The stadium saga has dragged on for the best part of a decade now, and nobody knows that better than Scaroni. The Milan president has become the figurehead and the symbol of the soap opera, to the extent that he has even been nicknamed ‘Stadioni’.

On Tuesday, some good news emerged as the Mayor Giuseppe Sala confirmed that an agreement has been reached over the sale price for San Siro with Milan and Inter. The clubs plan to buy the existing stadium and the land around it to eventually build a new home and part-demolish the current one.

Then, earlier today it was announced that the council have approved the sale agreement, which must now be voted through. That vote will take place before the end of the months.

‘Certainly good news’

Scaroni spoke to Sky to react with the news from the city hall today, and his comments were relayed by MilanPress.

“I haven’t read the resolution yet. It’s a lot of pages, but it’s certainly good news. It’s a journey that began many, many years ago, I don’t even remember how many. We’re not at the end yet, but I’m happy,” he said.

“We have a goal, and we’ll achieve it: we’ll build Milan the most beautiful stadium in Europe because Milan deserves it. We’re committed to this very important project, which we’ve been working on for a long time. We’ll invest a lot of money in it, and it will be a stadium for everyone. All Milanese people will be proud of it.”
