Paolo Scaroni has often been a bit polarising with his comments regarding AC Milan matters. However, he has delivered a welcome update about San Siro.
This morning, the news that an agreement had been found about San Siro was published, with Milan and Inter being given the news that they would be able to buy the stadium and the land surrounding the iconic stadium.
It has been a nervy few weeks, and there may still be some tense days left. After all, there is now an appeal process which will last 40 days. Only then can the clubs really begin to get excited about the situation.
Scaroni’s San Siro update
For now, though, it is a case of planning things, and Scaroni has, today, discussed the situation and the steps forward with Sky, Mediaset and Rai after the council’s approval in the early hours of the morning, as relayed by Calciomercato.com.
“It’s been a long process. I’ve been following it for many years, and it’s finally been successful thanks first and foremost to the city administration, the mayor, and the discussions we’ve had with them for many months, both Inter and AC Milan.
“It’s something I’ve been waiting for for many years, and I’m truly happy. Appeals? There can always be appeals in Italy, but I believe all the elements are in place for them to be rejected.”
Next steps…
“The municipality must notify us of its approval of what was achieved tonight, and we must adhere to this contract that was approved. Then the city council must approve the urban planning framework agreement. This is the city council’s responsibility.
“At this point, we can draw up the deed, which is the first formal act. We’ll provide €73 million from the notary, and all of this will be completed by October. Then the design phase will begin, which will take six to eight months.
“At the end of all this, we’ll present it at a service conference attended by the municipality, the region, the local health authority, and all the relevant bodies, including, of course, the environmental permit. We expect all of this to happen around mid-2027.
“Construction will then begin, and we expect it to be finished around the end of 2030, well in time for 2032, which is a key date because the new San Siro stadium must be ready to host the European Championship.”

Capacity and design…
“Foster is a great architect, in general, and perhaps one of the greatest in the world, and he’s also worked on stadiums, along with Manica, who specialises in stadiums. I think we’ve chosen the best there is to give Milan the most beautiful stadium in Europe, and perhaps the world.
“The architectural design will take some time before being made public, but I’m confident because it’s hard to imagine anything better than Foster and Manica.”
“72,000 spectators, roughly the current capacity of San Siro. It will be a stadium for everyone, easily accessible to everyone, so it’s a positive thing for that area of Milan, which will be modernised for the entire neighbourhood.”
