When Niclas Füllkrug first arrived at AC Milan, many turned their noses up at the German. However, he is playing his role perfectly so far.
It was clear from the off that Milan were not signing Füllkrug to be the first choice striker for Massimiliano Allegri. But, with no physical option in his team, and the injury issues plaguing his front line, it was a deal that made sense.
Low cost with no guarantees on the future, all parties could benefit from the move.
Allegri would get a striker which he has been asking for for months, whilst Füllkrug gets a chance to re-emerge and get his name into the hat for the German World Cup squad in the summer, which was not possible in the Premier League.
Füllkrug could stay at Milan
So far, he has been a great addition, providing value to the Rossoneri and even popping up with a decisive goal already. Now, Matteo Moretto has given an update about his future and how he could remain with the Diavolo, as MilanNews relays from Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel.
“Fullkrug arrived quietly, but he was a striker who served Milan like bread. He arrived on a free loan, Milan will only pay €1.3 million in salary. If he stays, the salary will be higher.
“The amount set for the redemption is €5m. Given his age and his condition, it remains to be seen if Milan will redeem him. It will obviously depend on the performance on the field and what the German can give to the Rossoneri locker room.”
