Andriy Shevchenko, the all-time top goalscorer in the Derby della Madonnina, shared his thoughts on the big game in an interview with La Repubblica this morning.
Milan will take on their city rivals, Inter, tomorrow evening at San Siro. The Nerazzurri will be the designated home side and as always with the derby, it’s completely sold out. Just two points separate the two sides in the standings too, making it a very interesting clash.
As said, the Milan legend Shevchenko has scored the most goals in the fixture with 14 of them, helping paint the city red and black many times. In an interview with La Repubblica (via MilanNews), the former striker shared his thoughts on tomorrow’s game.
Is this game decisive for the Scudetto?
“I don’t think so. It won’t affect the outcome of the season, it’s too early to say it’s decisive. Of course, it’s always nice to win it.
“Both teams are in good form. Getting a result, however, is more important for Milan who remain a little more fragile than the Nerazzurri. They must continue to grow, and a defeat would perhaps halt that process.”
Have Inter overcome the doubts?
“Today, they are a different team. When you end a season, you turn the page and start again. The Nerazzurri squad has remained practically intact; in fact, they have even strengthened. Chivu seems to be a coach with a good vision for football. He has the right ideas. They are among the favourites for the Scudetto.”

Milan, meanwhile, have had a different path…
“They had to regain certainty and solidity. To rebuild after the difficulties encountered last season. You also have to consider that many new players have arrived. Allegri is managing this phase well; it wasn’t a given.”
How important is Allegri?
“Max is an experienced coach with specific characteristics. He’s a serious person, he knows how to manage players well, and he has a proven style of play. When you sign him, you know what you’re getting: he’s living up to expectations.”
What are your thoughts on Modric?
“He’s impressing me, he’s making a big difference. But as a team, Milan still have some steps to take to reach the same level as Inter.”
Kick-off is set for 20:45 CET tomorrow (Sunday) and it should be an electric atmosphere at San Siro. That being said, Milan owner Gerry Cardinale isn’t expected to attend the game, which isn’t exactly surprising but also frustrating.
