Sia discusses Futuro project, first-team desire and his bond with Milan: “Like a family now”

Milan Futuro star Diego Sia has shared his thoughts on the start to the season, his bond with Milan as a club, and what he wants to achieve in the future.

Sia got a good amount of playing time for the Futuro side already last season, making 33 appearances for the team. However, the starting spot is new for this season, taking on a leading role in Massimo Oddo’s side.

So far, the growth has been exactly what Milan wanted with two goals and two assists in eight games, helping the Rossoneri assert themselves in the standings. Speaking to MilanTV, as transcribed by MilanNews, Sia shared his thoughts on the season, his role, and the future.

On Milan Futuro…

“This is my second year with Milan Futuro and with coach Oddo. Speaking of the group, it’s very united, and I think you’ve seen that in these first few games. We work hard, especially with the coach, who always pushes us to give 100%.

“We want to continue on this path. I can help the team both in terms of goals and assists. I think it’s a wonderful project that believes in young players: it helps us grow in tough leagues.”

On his relationship with Oddo…

“I have a great relationship with the coach, he always pushes me to give my best. I always try to listen to every single piece of advice he gives.”

On his relationship with Milan…

“This is my fifteenth year here at AC Milan, and it’s like a family now, a second home. I feel really good here. Over the years, I’ve experienced so many emotions, so many victories, so many defeats: the U16 final, the Youth League final…

“We’ve been through a lot, and I think I’ve matured a lot. This year, I feel like one of the big boys, even if that’s not the case, and I try to lend a helping hand or advice to the younger players that I’ve been given in the past.”

His debut with the first team during pre-season…

“It was wonderful, I had been waiting for it for a long time. I think it’s every kid’s dream when they start playing football. I thank Allegri and the entire staff for giving me this opportunity, but it’s just a starting point; I hope there will be many more.”

On the Italy shirt…

“With the national team, it’s always an honour to wear the Italy shirt. Last year I was with the U19s, the year before I played in the European Championships as a junior, I hope to win the shirt back and wear it again.”

On his life off the pitch…

“I’m a very simple guy. I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I have several hobbies, like playing padel. I’m very sporty. Over the years, I have met so many guys, and I have remained on good terms with many of them. I think of Scotti, who’s now in the youth team, and Magni, who’s left…”

On his goals…

“My goal is to improve every day: to always give my all for the team and for myself. Then I’d like to achieve a lot of satisfaction, perhaps making my debut at San Siro or being able to train regularly with the first team.”

Sia is certainly one of the talents that Milan believe in a lot. Despite not being the tallest or strongest player, he often manages to beat his opponents through grit, pace and skill, while his shooting abilitites aren’t too bad either…
