Simonelli offers worrying update on Milan-Como future in Australia: “It’s a sacrifice”

3 weeks ago 30

This afternoon, Ezio Simonelli discussed the situation of the AC Milan game against Como, and it is an interesting interview.

There has been a lot of talk about the game in Perth next year, and just the final few ticks are needed for the game to go ahead. However, there have been reports suggesting that Lega Serie A are under massive amounts of pressure to cancel the idea.

As of right now, the game will not go ahead, but that is not due to a lack of support from Serie A. Rather, the lack of the relevant agreements reached.

Negative signs

Several relevant parties have voiced their concerns with the idea, too, though. Massimiliano Allegri joined his captain, Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot in protesting the game, whilst Cesc Fabregas has been a long-standing opponent.

Today, Simonelli referenced the NFL when discussing the future of the game, and it seems that there are no plans to cancel the game…

“I saw the images of the NFL match at the Bernabéu: a beautiful event. But in football, there is still the idea that if something has never been done, then there must be a reason.

“Instead, I have always thought that we need to ask ourselves whether what has always been done is right or whether it is time for a change.

“Opening up to matches abroad, like the NFL, NBA, or the Giro d’Italia, which often starts outside the country, would be a step forward. We’re trying with Milan-Como in Perth.

“Yes, Perth is very far away and will be an inconvenience for the fans, I understand that and agree. But looking to the future of Italian football, having an international stage could be an important calling card. It’s a sacrifice that can be acceptable,” he stated at the Sport Industry Talk, via MilanNews.
