Sky: From Gabbia down to Odogu – the most and least-used players under Allegri so far

With the sample size now at five games, we can begin to see some trends regarding who Massimiliano Allegri wishes to rely upon.

Ahead of tonight’s Coppa Italia round of 32 game against Lecce, there is a lot of talk about rotation. It is not only a chance to rest those who have played most of the minutes so far in 2025-26, but also to give some opportunities to those less used. Who specifically are we talking about, though?

Most used

Sky have the numbers from the first five competitive games of the new season, which includes the Coppa Italia win over Bari. Five have played over 400 minutes: Youssouf Fofana, Pervis Estupinan, Fikayo Tomori, Alexis Saelemaekers and Matteo Gabbia.

Gabbia is the only one to play every minute of each game for a total of 450 minutes, which says a lot about the faith that the Italian coach has in his compatriot as the anchor of the defence. Santiago Gimenez, Strahinja Pavlovic and Luka Modric are also part of the top eight.

Least used

In terms of the least used both David Odogu and Davide Bartesaghi have not played a single minute yet. Zachary Athekame came on during the 3-0 win at Udinese, but those remain the only nine minutes that he has amassed since signing.

Christopher Nkunku, Koni De Winter, Samuele Ricci and Adrien Rabiot are next, which continues the trend of the summer additions being lower down. Christian Pulisic is also in the top eight least used, but largely due to fitness issues.
